Meet Attorney Matt Ferrara

For Attorney Matt Ferrara, the courtroom is a battlefield where rights are defended, and the stakes are personal. As Of Counsel at Dod Law, Matt brings a unique combination of military discipline and elite trial experience to the firm’s Military Division Unit.

Matt’s fighting spirit dates back to his early adulthood.  After graduating from High School, Matt became a United States Marine and was deployed to the al Anbar province of Iraq. Through his experiences across two deployments, Matt gained a passion for protecting the rights of others, especially his fellow service-members.

After completing his military service honorably, Matt went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from San Diego State University, graduating with Cum Laude honors.  During college, Matt served in various support roles, where he educated the veteran community on resources and served as a mentor to participants of the Veterans’ Treatment Court.

Matt saw a career in law practice as a way to continue his passion for service.  So, in 2010, Matt enrolled into the Thomas Jefferson School of Law where he developed and sharpened his skills as an attorney.  Matt spent time during law school providing legal representation to military veterans and was recognized with high-grade honors.  Additionally, Matt spent multiple semesters representing accused citizens within the California Superior Courts; an experience which shaped his future as an advocate.

After graduating from law school, Matt was hired by the premier criminal defense firm in the county: The San Diego County Public Defender’s Office.  Matt was fortunate to be mentored and trained by some of the best lawyers in the country during his time as a Public Defender.  Throughout a decade of relentless advocacy, Matt established himself as a fierce trial attorney.  Matt has represented thousands of clients facing criminal charges while consistently achieving the best possible outcomes.  Matt has also represented hundreds of military clients, while defending their rights and safeguarding their careers.  Matt’s trial experience includes DUI, Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Child Abuse, Drugs, Weapons, Robbery, Burglary and First-Degree Murders; he has secured full acquittals on behalf of clients in multiple courts.
